Keeping To Herself
With her focused determination and passion for success, Nadia garnered a bit of a reputation as “an emotionless gymnast”. However, this could not be further from the truth. At the time, Nadia was extremely emotional, and rightly so! But, she did not often show her feelings, preferring to keep them bottled up. Her coach, Béla Károlyi said that “she kept everything inside.” Poor Nadia was simply too young to handle it all.

Soon, officials from the Romanian Sporting Authority began to realize what effect their decision to remove Béla as Nadia’s coach had on the young athlete. Thus, he was promptly reinstated as her coach. The reunion was quite tearful, but overall a happy one. However, they did not have time to sit around and catch up. The Olympic Games, to be held in Moscow, were right around the corner.
