Nothing would distract Nadia from winning. The world’s attention refocused on her yet again, but she did not let the pressure get to her. Even drunk hecklers in the crowd, Russian soldiers yelling “Fall, Nadia! Fall!” could not distract her. And even though she did not have the optimal amount of time to train before competing, she still snagged four medals, two gold, and two silver.

Once again, Nadia blew judges and spectators away with her flawless performances, but everything was not smooth sailing ahead. The judges were taking an exceptionally long time in delivering her scores, and Bela Károlyi suspected something was up. When the scores were finally revealed, they were far too low for the performance Nadia had just given. He made a giant scene, which was captured and televised around the world. Some thought his antics embarrassed Romania, and suddenly Bela worried about his safety upon returning home.
