Did you know that Columbia Pictures recruited Kim Novak to be some sort of a replacement for Rita Hayworth, whose initial popularity in the ‘40s declined in the ‘50s? They were also thinking Novak could be their answer to Marilyn Monroe from 20th Century Fox. When Novak appeared in Alfred Hitchcock’s movie Vertigo, she was able to establish her spot in the entertainment industry. In the ‘60s, she started appearing in fewer projects and she eventually retired in the early ‘90s.

Italian-Tunisian Claudia Cardinale’s career started when she was crowned the “Most Beautiful Italian Girl in Tunisia” in a contest. She won a trip to Italy, though speaking in Italian was hard for her since her parents only spoke Sicilian. Nevertheless, her beauty opened up doors for her in the modeling world and in show business. When she started acting, they initially dubbed her voice over because she had a raspy voice and a French accent.
