Choice For Gilligan
There was a rumor circulating that Gilligan’s character was supposed to be given by the show’s producers to Alan Young. Young played ‘Wilbur Post’ on Mister Ed. Sherwood answered all the questions some few years after. He said he is not sure where the rumor was coming from because they never considered Young to play Gilligan.

The show’s production considered adding a new character to the show: the Professor’s nephew. They decided against it because they felt there was no need for a child actor since Gilligan’s character is a child at heart.
