Every character in the show, except the goofy but lovable Gilligan, was meant to stand for different eras of American society. Ever wonder why they called the men by their professions and not their names? Well, that was so each character could represent that part of society.
Dawn Wells’ Memoir
After her iconic role as Mary Ann in Gilligan’s Island, she made a memoir and the title was What Would Mary Ann Do? There are many help sections in the book as well as stories that happened on set while they were filming. This was written in Mary Ann’s point of view instead of Wells’. There are many pieces of advice from this star-eyed woman from Kansas on how to deal with the troubles of a modern society.
