Willie Nelson
Willie Nelson’s guitar playing is easygoing, lighthearted, and instantly recognizable, much like his conversational singing. Amazingly, Nelson has been performing with the same Trigger-named Martin M-20 classical guitar since 1969. That characterizes his voice, a gypsy jazz nylon thorn that blends blues, country, and Django Reinhardt jazz. Nelson continues to play the guitar every night even though it has a significant hole in it now.
Robby Krieger
Robby Krieger, who studied jazz and flamenco, outperformed rock and roll when most musicians were still constrained by the blues. He has a gift for improvisation with The Doors, mimicking Jim Morrison’s most adventurous excursions, penning some of their hottest songs (“Light My Fire”), and making up for it in their keyboard-drum-guitar combo.
