Are you wondering how boot paint is different from boot-topping? Well, the answer is not much. If you really want to know, boot-topping is the black coating often spread between the deck and the waterline. Aside from this, it has a thick, liquid-like consistency owing to its lime or sulfur components. Civilians do not have the ability to discern between the two, but a soldier is familiar enough with these materials to distinguish between them.
