Before casting the roles of Mike and Carol Brady, the producers decided to cast the six kids first. We know it sounds a bit backwards. Often, the children would be cast last, not first!

Aside from toilets, “divorce” was another big taboo in those days. Initially, Carol was a divorced woman while Mike was known as a widower. When Sherwood Schwartz told the network about Carol Brady’s role, the network refused to use the word outright. Both sides decided to compromise by only alluding to Carol’s status. When Florence Henderson was asked about her first husband in an interview, she jokingly said that she killed him.
