Former cast member Matt Barnes discussed how scripted and staged the entire show is. Tanya Young has backed up the allegations, claiming that the producers staged the drama by pitting the wives against each other.

The show featured everything you’d expect from a reality show. On a regular basis, there was backstabbing, teen angst, and relationship drama. The show appears to be heavily scripted. According to Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag, they were asked to film the same scene fifteen times. He was furious when she said she thought she was “pregnant.” Several characters, including Lauren’s coworker’s best friend, were cast by the show’s producers.
