Quite the opposite of how the circumstances would be handled today, family and friends attempted to force feed Karen. Since bulimia and anorexia were relatively new disorders at the time, no one really realized that they are mental disorders. Therefore, trying to feed Karen wasn’t very helpful.

The Funeral
Over a thousand people attended Karen’s funeral. Even though she was extremely thin, she didn’t reveal to the public that she’d been sick. Her death became one of the biggest eye-openers, which urged the public to begin taking anorexia seriously.
