Two Winners
After her stellar performance came the awards ceremony. Two silver cups were awarded to two talented gymnasts, one male and one female. Nadia Comăneci earned hers with gracious humility, and the second cup when to Bart Conner from the United States. This was the first meeting between the two, and it would prove to be a life-altering event for both of them.

As the two athletes modeled with their medals, photographers huddled around them to snap shots. One of them shouted out, “Kiss for the cameras, please!” Bar Conner, who at the time was barely older than 18, leaned over and planted a chaste kiss on 14 year old Nadia’s cheek. The two of them made quite the cute picture, and the shot planted Nadia firmly in America’s heart.
