Some golf experts were actually concerned about the impact of Woods’ accomplishments in the public appeal and competitiveness of professional golf, earlier in his career. The Knight Ridder sportswriter Bill Lyon once asked his readers in a column, “Isn’t Tiger Woods actually bad for golf?” Lyon eventually concluded that he wasn’t, however. Initially, a few pundits were afraid that Tiger Woods would eliminate competition by making the existing golf courses obsolete, making his opponents fight for second place every week.
